Abstract
The Noyes family papers consist primarily of correspondence of Daniel Parker Noyes, Presbyterian clergyman, his wife, Helen McGregor (Means) Noyes, and their family. Correspondence pertains to family matters: births, deaths, marriages, education, travel, and other information on social and domestic life during the second half of the 19th century. Other families represented are the Means and Parish families.
Collection Description
The Noyes family papers consist primarily of correspondence of Daniel Parker Noyes, Presbyterian clergyman, his wife, Helen McGregor (Means) Noyes, and their family. Included are descriptions of undergraduate life at Yale College by Daniel P. Noyes (1840), Edward P. Noyes (1880), and Atherton Noyes (1885). Letters between Daniel P. Noyes and his parents, Daniel and Mary (Parish) Noyes, contain references to his work as a tutor at Yale, pastor of the Jay Street Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, N.Y., Secretary of the American Home Missionary Society and the Home Evangelization for Massachusetts, and as pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, Mass. Correspondence of Marion McGregor Noyes, her parents, and brothers, Edward P. Noyes and Atherton Noyes, pertains to family matters--births, deaths, marriages, education, travel, and other information on social and domestic life during the second half of the 19th century. Included are letters concerning Marion M. Noyes' interest in the Women's Educational and Industrial Union, the Massachusetts Child Labor Committee, and Simmons College. In addition there are letters of Richard Atherton Noyes detailing his active service in France with the American Expeditionary Force in 1917-1918; a Jan. 1840 description of the trial in the Amistad (Schooner) case; a long account of the illness and death of Eliza J. Bigelow; and a series of letters of Henry M. Dexter, classmate of Daniel P. Noyes. Other families represented are the Means and Parish families.
